Kangaroo Map Table?

Watch Vessel Map Table

This useful old table has a long draw and my grandmother always maintained that it was the map table from the old Coastguard watch vessel moored at Burnham. Apparently the Burnham watch vessel Kangaroo was disposed of in 1897, seven years before the Veitchs arrived and this may explain why Effie (born in 1900) could not recollect the watch vessel's name.

The Kangaroo was a sister ship to The Beagle (of Dawinian fame!) and like The Beagle ended it's days as a static Coastguard watch vessel in the Essex mud. It is fun to imagine that Darwin sat at a similar table in the Beagle while writing up his important notes.
