According to the 1891 Census Emily Jean was born at Ebbsfleet Minster, Thanet, Kent, the eldest daughter of the Veitch family in Burnham. I fondly remember Aunt. Jean as an quite, elderly, grey haired Lady who was pretty deaf. She never married and spent her last years living in Mildmay Road Chelmsford with her sister Effie, my grandmother, my grandfather, my parents and brothers. It would appear that she chose to be know as Jean Veitch quite early on and I have several items passed down which puts Jean before Emily.
In Burnham she became the teacher of St. Mary's Girls Sunday School .
During WWI Jean served in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC) which later
became the
Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps. After the war she
followed her brother out to Canada and lived there several years.
