Burnham-on-Crouch Coastguard Station
and Veitch's home (1904-1911)

by Paul N Brown

Effie Brown was born in Caister-on-Sea in 1900 while her father John Veitch was posted to the Norfolk town. The family moved to Goldhanger in Essex shortly afterwards. In 1903 or 4 John Veitch became Burnham's Coastguard and the family lived in the Coastguard Station in Silver Street for six years. Effie remembered many people and experiences from her early years at Burnham. John Veitch retired from Navy Service and the family moved from Burnham to Aldbourne in Wiltshire.

I would be delighted to hear from anyone else who has any additional information on the picture below. -
