| | This archive records raw archaeological data from the Lofts Farm
Project collected by volunteer Maldon Archaeological Group members and helpers
between 1978 and 2000. Essentially it is a record of
observation and selective archaeological excavation during the commercial gravel
quarrying of a 110 acre site near Maldon in Essex. We are indebted to the
gravel company Contractors Aggregates and farmers Mr. Hughes, Mr. Rees and Mr.
Goodwin for permissions and assistance in carrying out the
work. Discoveries on this multi-period site have included Neolithic ditches
and pits, Bronze Age barrows and burials, Late Bronze Age Early Iron Age
enclosures and huts, numerous Middle and Late Iron Age round houses, enclosures
and trackway, Roman trackways, field systems and enclosures and a medieval
moated site.
